Important for Your Health

According to Vox Magazine – “In 2015, health officials in Rhode Island released data showing a dramatic spike in cases of syphilis (79 percent), gonorrhea (30 percent), and HIV (33 percent) in the previous year. The uptick, they said, wasn’t an outlier — it was part of a national trend.

According to a September report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were more than 2 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis reported in the United States in 2016 — the highest cumulative number ever recorded.”

What’s the suspected reason for this huge spike in STI’s?

Online dating apps! Some experts believe that online dating may be linked to the dramatic rise in the STD and STI epidemic because they foster a culture of “casual sex” which enables users to meet people and hook up more efficiently, frequently, and casually than ever before. Please note that it’s not our opinion that non-committed sex is in anyway morally wrong or bad, in and of itself. Our position is ALWAYS that mindfulness, honesty, communication, and clarity are essential for healthy sexual connection, regardless of one’s relationship status. Unfortunately, not everyone may share these views, and online dating can expose us to a whole range of different sexual beliefs and viewpoints, some of which may or may not be supportive for our health and well being. Many health experts see online dating as a great opportunity to address the issue of sexual health for the masses — yet most major sites don’t want to make any changes to the way they operate. In comes SwaggerScan! A revolutionary new way of dating that is designed to help users prevent the spread of STI’s by REQUIRING testing and full disclosure for all members.

Devi speaks with Dia Hicks, creator of SwaggerScan.com a service here to help END the STD and STI epidemic. This new service will allow people to share their health history before dating, which will give people more incentive to test and discuss their results.

Safety before Pleasure

POWER IN PLEASURE PRE-COURSE MODULE PDF

Here is a helpful questionaire of pleasure and how our pleasure contributes to our power, our sense of agency, and our autonomy. But pleasure isn't where we start.
If we don't experience a certain level of relative safety, our brains and our bodies struggle to code sensations, behaviors, and situations as pleasurable. When we are in a state of tension, overwhelm, or danger (or if our bodies believe we are), our bodies and brains are focused on survival. To talk about pleasure, we have to explore our sense of safety. Let's start with a little evaluation. Link to pdf here.

What It's Like to Have Sex With Hearing Loss

Embracing hearing limitations has come, somewhat counterintuitively, from eroticizing them.

Living in Bliss - Devi Ward Erickson

The concept of “Living in Bliss” is an integral part of the Tantric Path. In fact, when Devi Ward Erickson began studying and practicing Tantra, her mentor spoke often about “living in a state of bliss”.
At the time she thought of images floating through her day-to-day life filled with golden light, hearing angels singing, and seeing unicorns dancing out of the corner of her eye.

What he meant was something quite different though, and it’s an experience she now begins to truly grasp and appreciate.

Living in bliss is NOT necessarily living in a state of exaltation in every moment. Rather it is an inner state of ease and flow. A sense of inner balance and harmony.

Living in bliss arises as an experience of openness in her workday. A sense of each moment flowing perfectly into the next, each task completed on time, each piece of the puzzle fitting into place perfectly- without haste, without anxiety, without that frantic sense of urgency and pressure that used to overshadow very moment of a day. So how did she get from anxious, frantic and overwhelmed, to peaceful, open, fluid and blissful?

Do you have "Vagina Disconnection?" by Pamela Madsen

I'm a sex educator who gets to work with mostly "enlightened women." Women who are in some way already on their way to empowering their lives and connecting to their sexuality. What continues to shock me is the level of discomfort and stark disconnection that so many of these women have with their own vagina and pelvic bowl. The lack of acceptance that a woman has for her own vagina and the lack of knowledge about the incredible potential of embodying the creative life force energy these spaces hold, continues to disturb me as I encounter this all over the world. The practices that I teach are all about leading, guiding and loving women back to this place of empowerment, pleasure and creation in their bodies. Once women can reconnect to their bodies, it is a total game changer. Everything can shift -- their sexual expression, their love life and even their financial picture.

But how did we get there?
How did we become a universal culture of vagina shaming with the result being that women numb out and disconnect from their genitals and pelvic bowl?

On Tantra

You may be aware that the Tantra world was recently rocked by yet another sexual abuse scandal affecting a well-known school for Neo-Tantra.

Unfortunately, this is not the first accusation being leveled at this particular school, which potentially points to a deeper underlying thread of systematic abuse within that organization.

In my opinion, ongoing issues of abuse and sexual misconduct within a Tantric or spiritually based organization point to an underlying flaw in the practice and/or methods being taught.

The world of sexuality education can be a slippery slope, and when a school for Tantra is not deeply anchored in clear intent and altruistic motivation for practice, it can be easy to slide off into unethical territory.

The world of Neo-Tantra is filled with so many different schools and styles of practitioners, it’s hard to know how to protect yourself and where you should go to learn Tantra without subjecting yourself to abuse and sexual misconduct.

So how do you know if your Tantra school fits the bill?

Urgent Response – 416-964-9464 (webpage) Jay Tropianskaia, who is one of my shamanic teachers, leads this excellent program for people with addictions, including sexual addictions.

This is a workshop for those affected by addictions as well as counselors and therapists working with addictions. Renowned physicist David Bohm once gave a group of scientists the following gift: he told them that when experiencing any urgent response to anything they not give into it, but instead take a pause. That is because urgency comes out of our brain’s function called pattern recognition by which it can urge us to identify a hamburger with happiness, or a new dress with survival. Gestalt therapy works in the pause – between our forgotten deepest needs and the short lived urgent solution that never meets those needs. In this 10 week workshop you will learn:
  • that the addictive pattern holds the key to our underlying needs
  • to confront the dread of boredom
  • to recognize your spiking pattern that keeps you from feeling
  • to accept short term pain for long term pleasure
  • to accept loss as an important part of living and a key to reclaiming hope

Good for Her workshops. GFH is a sex positive Toronto store selling erotica and toys as well as offering many excellent workshops for both men and women. I have taken many of these workshops as I mention in my play. Address: 175 Harbord St., Toronto, ON., Canada. Phone: 416-588-0900.

AuthenticTibetan Tantra, Female Orgasm Intensive, with Devi Erikson and Marthe Schneider. This on-line workshop took me up to a whole other level just as they claimed.

Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts. Through her powerful courses, Regena Thomashauer, in her own admittedly badass way, is making a revolution by advocating for and teaching the womanly arts so the feminine can be brought into balance with the masculine.
